Posted February 08, 2019 07:06:03 New York City Police Commissioner Bill Bratton has just begun speaking to reporters about what traffic enforcement officers do when they encounter the vehicles and pedestrians that make up the city’s population.
The commissioner says traffic enforcement is not the NYPD’s only mission.
He says the department is doing other things, too, like enforcing traffic laws.
Bratton said the city will begin issuing tickets and fines on a case-by-case basis, based on factors like whether or not a driver has been stopped, whether a vehicle is moving or if it has been pulled over.
He said the department’s focus is on enforcement, and that he’s confident it will not become an all-out police force.
He also said that the department will work with state and local officials to implement the plan.
